General Information

Stanislaus County is recruiting for a County Veterinarian. This individual is responsible for providing medical services dealing with the prevention, treatment and control of diseases and injuries in animals. This position reports directly to the Animal Services Director and is subject to policy determination of the Director, Chief Executive Officer, and the Board of Supervisors.

The area offers a variety of cultural and recreation opportunities and is located within easy driving distance from Yosemite National Park, the historic gold rush country, Lake Tahoe, the San Francisco Bay area and the Monterey Peninsula.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Department of Animal Services is to strive for community compliance of State and local laws. The Department provides a professional level of service along with promoting responsible pet ownership. Housing is provided to over 20,000 animals annually and the facility is open to the community seven days a week. The facility offers adoptable animals and housing for stray animals rescued in the community. Animal Services also provides humane education for all ages and organizations throughout the community.

Animal Services provides medical care, spay and neuter services for adoptable animals along with community spay and neuter programs such as the Stanislaus County Alternative to Euthanasia (SCATE) Program. The community spay and neuter programs consist of strong partnerships with Alley Cat Guardians and the local veterinary association.

The annual salary range for this position is $71,011 - $106,496. The County Veterinarian is an unclassified, management position. As such, the incumbent shall be considered an "at will" employee of county government and is designated management for labor relations purposes.
