Employee Choice Bonus Plan

The Employee Choice Bonus Plan is designed to support recruitment for positions that have been formally designated as hard-to-recruit. Eligible full‑time employees hired into these designated classifications by June 30, 2027 may receive a bonus valued at up to one month’s salary, with a total potential benefit of up to $10,000, distributed over three annual installments. A key feature of this program is flexibility. Eligible employees may choose one of the following incentive options:
  • Cash payment
  • Leave time
  • Deferred compensation
This allows new hires to select the option that best aligns with their financial goals, personal circumstances, or long‑term planning preferences.

How Positions Are Designated

The County uses a structured, data-informed approach to determine which roles qualify as hard‑to‑recruit. Factors considered include:
  • Vacancy and turnover trends
  • Applicant pool size
  • Recruitment outcomes
  • Labor market conditions
  • Documented hiring challenges
Designations are reviewed annually to ensure they remain accurate and responsive to changing conditions.

Eligibility Criteria

You may qualify for the Employee Choice Bonus Plan if:
  • You are hired full‑time into a classification designated as hard‑to‑recruit.
  • Your hire date falls within the program’s eligibility window.
  • All program requirements are met as outlined in the applicable policy.
Employees hired on or after July 1, 2026, and by June 30, 2027, into qualifying roles will automatically be considered.

Program Purpose

This incentive is intended to recognize the value of critical skill sets, strengthen recruitment efforts, and support the continuity of essential public services. For candidates considering a role with Stanislaus County, the Employee Choice Bonus Plan offers a meaningful financial benefit paired with the flexibility to choose how that benefit is received.
